Dr. Akimoto was born in New York, NY and brought up both in US and Japan. He graduated from Tokyo Medical and Dental University with his dental degree in 1989. Upon graduation, he practiced general dentistry in Tokyo Japan. From 1992, He also worked as the market consultant for Nobelpharma Japan, consulting dentists about implant dentistry. In 1995, Dr. Akimoto was accepted into the post-doctoral Periodontal program at the University of Washington, where he completed his training in 1998. Upon completion, Master of Science in Dentistry was awarded. His implant research was awarded with prestigious Osseoitegration foundation dental implant research grant as well as California Society of Periodontists, outstanding implant research award in 1999. He then maintained the practice limited to Periodontics and Implants in Tokyo Japan, while teaching at the post-doctoral level at Tokyo Medical and Dental University. In November 2000, Dr. Akimoto became a Diplomate of the American Board of Periodontology. Dr. Akimoto moved to Bellevue, Washington in February, 2003 where he currently practices with Dr. Thomas P. Sweeney. Dr. Akimoto is a member of may professional organizations which includes the American Dental Association, American Association of Periodontology, American Board of Periodontology, Washington State Dental Association and the Seattle King County Dental Society. Dr. Akimoto lectures nationally and internationally about Periodontics and dental implants. He currently holds position as Affiliated Assistant Professor at University of Washington, Department of Periodontics.
